A quick storm response update from the City of Bellevue for Friday evening, August 2nd at 8:30pm
** A record number of OPPD, contractors and mutual aid crews are making good progress on restoration following Wednesday's extreme windstorm. There are still about 10,000 OPPD customers without power in Sarpy County as of 8PM this evening but there were 4 or 5 trucks in the Olde Towne area within the last hour, so hopefully that number will lessen soon.
** The City of Bellevue has opened two tree debris drop off locations for Bellevue residents and both are being well used. The City's Tree Dump just north of 8902 Cedar Island Road near the Rose Lane intersection and the vacant lot near the baseball fields at Haworth Park are now open for residents to dispose of storm-related tree debris. These locations are currently open and will remain open daily from 7am to 8pm at least through Sunday, August 4th. The Tree Dumps will be open into next week as well but those hours of operation have not been determined as of yet. The Tree Dumps will be unmanned and are open for all Bellevue.
residents, but no commercial dumping will be allowed.
** The City of Bellevue has worked with our friends at Lift Up Sarpy and have coordinated with the Bellevue Pubic Schools to use the Lied Activity Center as a cooling and charging center over the weekend. The Lied Center is located at 2700 Arboretum Dr. and will will be open from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, August 3rd and from Noon to 5pm on Sunday, August 4th for those residents that still need to cool off and charge their devices. The Salvation Army will be serving food at some point during these hours at the Lied Center as well. The City of Bellevue's Public Library at 1003 Lincoln Drive will also be able to be used as a cooling and charging center during their regular hours of operation on Saturday and Sunday. There are also a number of churches that have made themselves available so please check your social media outlets for other cooling/charging opportunities. Thank you to our friends at BJSA, the Reed Center and Lift up Sarpy for operating today's cooling/charging centers.
** The City has received a few questions regarding curbside pickup of tree damage. At this time it is important to note that City Crews are still clearing streets as of this evening and are planning to work throughout the weekend. In the mean time, the City has opened two tree dumps for citizens to drop off their tree related debris and they will be open at least through next week. The City of Bellevue's Public Works Department will make the decision regarding curbside cleanup through out the city sometime next week based on the resources that we have available.
** Although the situation is improving, there are still a large number of traffic signals that are out. The City of Bellevue has put out all the signs that we have available but if you come across an intersection without working traffic signals, treat it as a four-way stop sign.
** The Bellevue Farmer's Market will be open as normal from 8am to Noon on Saturday, August 3rd. Thanks to all of the Parks Department crews that got Washington Park cleaned up in time to host this week's Farmer's Market!
The City of Bellevue has heard many stories regarding neighbors helping neighbors and we are happy to hear these stories. We appreciate your patience as we work to clean up after this storm.
