Nebraska's Oldest Church to Celebrate 175th Anniversary Starting on Thursday, August 14th

First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue has announced the inaugural ceremony for its 175th Anniversary Celebration.

The event, which will feature Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike and other dignitaries, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 14th at the Historic Old Church, at 2002 Franklin Street in Old Town Bellevue. After the ceremony, a reception will be held until 7:00 p.m. at the Sarpy County Museum, at 2402 Clay Street in Old Town Bellevue.

Bellevue’s First Presbyterian Church is holding this anniversary celebration to help the community learn more about its unique history. Historic memorabilia from the church will be the topic of an exhibit through December at the Sarpy County Museum.

The First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, which was founded in 1850, is the oldest church in Nebraska. In 1850, Rev. Edward McKinney founded the First Presbyterian Church of Nebraska with five members. Construction of the historic church building was begun in 1856.

The Anniversary Celebration will also include other events hosted by the church at its current location, at 1220 Bellevue Boulevard South:

• A community soup supper with entertainment and a traditional cake walk from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th;

• A special traditional church service highlighting the 175th anniversary of the church with special music at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12th;

• A fall festival from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29th, with treats and games for children; and

• A special church service with the choir performing their annual cantata at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 21st
