Here are the latest updates from the City of Bellevue regarding cleanup from yesterday's storm:
1. OPPD is reporting that power has been restored to 37% of the nearly 220,000 customers who have experienced an outage since yesterday's storm. Every available field resource that they have available has been mobilized including line crews, troubleshooter teams, wires-down crews, tree-trimming contractors and 62 crews from OPPD's mutual aid support partners. According to their website www.stormandoutage.com there are still close to 30,000 customers in Sarpy County alone that are without power. OPPD is asking for patience as they work as fast as possible to get power back in all areas, but they do warn that some of the hardest hit areas could take days for restoration of power.
2. There are still several roads blocked by downed trees and powerlines. If you come across a downed power line, consider it live and stay far away. Please do not attempt to drive through these areas.
3. The City of Bellevue also has all of their vehicles and crews out performing storm cleanup. The first priority is to ensure that all roads are clear and passable and that process is continuing.
4. Due to the power outages, there are still a large number of traffic signals that are out. The City of Bellevue has put out all the signs that we have available but if you come across an intersection without working traffic signals, treat it as a four-way stop sign.
5. Due to the large amount of tree damage in our community, the City of Bellevue has opened the Tree Dump just north of 8902 Cedar Island Road near the Rose Lane intersection, for residents to dispose of storm-related tree debris. The Tree Dump is currently open and will remain open daily from 7am to 8pm at least through Sunday, August 4th. The Tree Dump will be unmanned and is open for all Bellevue residents, but no commercial dumping will be allowed.
6. Due to the large crowds at the Tree Dump this morning and for the convenience of our residents, the city will be opening a second tree debris drop off location at Haworth Park as soon as possible. Crews are working this afternoon to get the site ready for traffic. The city will announce when this location is ready and open to the public.
7. The City of Bellevue Recreation Department has announced that Cascio Pool will be closed today, August 1, 2024, due to the power outage. Dowding and Gilbert Pools will be open for regular hours today.
8. Due to the forecasted heat and the large number of Bellevue residents without power, the City of Bellevue is working with local churches and organizations to open some cooling stations. We hope to have these locations finalized by the end of the day and before the really hot weather this weekend.
