Omaha Public Power District has just announced that there are over 220,000 customers without power in the metro area and over 50,000 in Sarpy County alone from the strong storm and high winds that went through the area earlier tonight. Many of those customers are in Bellevue and OPPD crews are working to assess the damage and will begin restoration efforts as soon as it is safe to do so.
If you come across a downed power line, consider it live and stay far away. Report it immediately by calling 911 or OPPD. Please note that the OPPD website is experiencing some issues at this time, so please report outages by calling 1-800-554-6773 or on the OPPD Connect App.
There are lot of tree limbs down and some roads are blocked by downed trees and powerlines as well. Please be extremely careful in these areas and do not attempt to drive through. City crews will be clearing the streets as soon as it is safe to do so.
The Bellevue Police Department encourages residents to stay off the roads if possible to allow road and utility crews to do their jobs. If you must drive and come across an intersection without working traffic signals, treat it as a four-way stop sign.
Mayor Hike has asked the city to open the Tree Dump tomorrow morning. Please stay tuned for exact times and more information as soon as it is available.
