Bellevue's New Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste Service Starts May 1st

The City of Bellevue’s new cart-based trash, recycling, and yard waste service goes into effect today.  The new program is designed to provide residents with increased flexibility and choice for their waste disposal service, while also improving recycling rates and controlling solid waste disposal costs.   Last fall, the City approved a new contract for solid waste disposal that requires these improvements.  Papillion Sanitation will be the service provider, as determined by a competitive bidding process.

During the month of April new carts were delivered to all residents.  If residents have not received their carts as of May 1, they should contact Papillion Sanitation customer service at 402-346-7800.

Residents who believe they did not receive the cart size they ordered or would like to exchange their carts for a different size, should also call Papillion Sanitation.  Requests for exchange of carts must be received by June 30.  Exchange of carts for different sizes could take up to eight weeks, depending on availability of the size requested.  Residents are asked to use the carts that were delivered until exchanges can be completed.  Residents requesting an exchange will be given 48 hours notice of the exchange date and are being asked to leave the carts for exchange curbside or within sight from the street.  The cart must be empty to be exchanged.  You are being billed for the size you ordered.  If you were inadvertently delivered an incorrect size, you are paying for what you ordered, not what you received.   If you are requesting a change in cart size, the 15th of the month is the cut off for the billing cycle.  Requests received after that date will be reflected in the following bill.

Two dates during May have been scheduled for curbside pick up of old trash cans that residents wish to have recycled.

  • For those with a regular trash pick up day of Monday, Tuesday or Friday, old trash cans will be picked up on May 5.
  • For residents with a regular trash pick up day of Wednesday or Thursday, old trash cans will be picked up on May 19.

To have old trash cans picked up for recycling, they must be placed curbside on the designated date by 7 am and they must be empty.  There will be no alley pick up.  If there is trash in the cans, they will NOT be picked up.

IMPORTANT DATES:

May 5:  Pick up day for disposal of old trash cans for residents with trash pick up on Monday, Tuesday, or Friday.  Trash cans to be picked up for disposal must be empty and placed curbside by 7 am.

May 19:  Pick up day for disposal of old trash can for residents with trash pick up on Wednesday or Thursday.  Trash cans to be picked up for disposal must be empty and placed curbside by 7 am.

June 30:  Last day to request change in cart size.
