BU acquired the charging station as part of a research Nebraska Environmental Trust grant received by the Nebraska Community Energy Alliance (NCEA). The City of Bellevue is one of the founding members of NCEA and transferred the charging station to BU with the intent to help expand the alternative fuel infrastructure in Nebraska. Bellevue University President Mary Hawkins stated, : “I am pleased to have the charging station on campus. I hope it will encourage staff and students to consider electric and hybrid vehicles.”
