Bellevue Public Works Department Announces Demolition Work to Begin for Galvin Road Pedestrian Bridge

The Bellevue Public Works Department has announced that demolition work to remove the pedestrian bridge over Galvin Road at Hansen Ave is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 26th.  Galvin Road will remain open to traffic through most of the project, with lanes shifted as necessary to direct traffic away from overhead work.  Galvin Road will need to be fully closed for a brief time in order to safely remove the steel bridge girders.  Public notice will be provided once the full closure of Galvin Road has been scheduled.

This bridge is being removed due to its deteriorated condition and the prohibitive cost of replacement.  Upgraded traffic signals, pavement markings and sidewalk curb ramps were recently installed at the intersection of Galvin Road with Lloyd St/Birchcrest Rd.  This work was completed to help provide a safe pedestrian route to Birchcrest Elementary School from the area west of Galvin Road.
