Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike Awards Jewel of Bellevue Award to Longtime Planning Commissioner Leland Jacobson

Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike stopped by the Bellevue Planning Commission this evening to award the Jewel of Bellevue to Planning Commissioner Leland Jacobsen. Mr. Jacobson is officially retiring from the Commission after tonight’s meeting after helping to shape the future of Bellevue for the last 20 years as a volunteer on the Planning Commission. “The Jewel of Bellevue" is the highest civic award the City bestows and is very rarely awarded. Mayor Hike thought this award was especially appropriate for Mr. Jacobsen, in recognition of his countless hours serving as an advocate for Bellevue and for the betterment of the community.

Leland Jacobson has worked in the field of Project Management and Business Process Consultant with OPPD and The Spear Group for over 35 years and has demonstrated a history of successfully managing several complex high-profile projects during that time for both companies. The City of Bellevue has greatly benefited from his experience and dedication as he has spent the last two decades volunteering on the Planning Commission and numerous other roles with a focus on a transformative community and economic development. Leland has also served the residents of Bellevue on the Board of Adjustment, the Complete Streets Advisory Panel, the Parks Master Plan Committee, the Design Review Board, the MAPA Heartland 2050 regional Planning Advisory Committee and has worked on the Transportation Plan to name a few.

Leland has a passion for Planning and the structured growth and success of Bellevue, and his efforts are appreciated. The City of Bellevue was grateful to hear that he will continue to serve on a few committees moving forward but Mayor Hike and Bellevue Planning Director Tammi Palm thought it was appropriate to recognize him this evening for his contributions to the community.
